VOLUNTEER
We rely on everyone to help make our club successful and continue growing. To keep things affordable and ensure we can offer great programs and events, we ask every family to get involved.
Volunteering is a great way to connect with the club, meet fellow members, and learn more about the amazing world of figure skating. The more time you contribute, the more events we can provide for our skaters, helping us enhance both the fun and the value of your membership!

Runner
This is a job that young skaters (ages 12+) generally enjoy doing. Runners are responsible for delivering the judges marks to the accounting room and to the awards table. Volunteers should not interfere with the judges. Volunteers do not actually “run” but should deliver the marks in a timely manner. Runners are stationed rink side, so be sure to wear something warm.
Guard Runner
As skaters line up waiting to get on the ice, the guard runner will collect each skaters’ guards in a bucket. While skaters compete, guard runners bring the skate guards to the rink exit and line each pair up neatly on a bench or table. This is a great role for our younger volunteers aged 12+. Guard runners are stationed rink side, so be sure to wear something warm with comfortable shoes.
Ice Monitor
Ice Monitors play a key role in keeping figure skating events running smoothly. They check in skaters before each warm-up group or event, track who has arrived, and may need to locate missing competitors or coordinate with registration. Ice Monitors communicate regularly with the Referee and Announcer using provided walkie-talkies. They also help maintain the skating order by marking which skaters are present and noting when each one takes the ice, and may be asked to assist with name pronunciations.
During events and practice ice, Ice Monitors manage the flow of skaters onto the ice. They are responsible for opening the entrance gate for skaters to take the ice and making sure the gate is closed after each competitor is announced. Coaches and skaters will periodically be checking in with you about the skating order to be sure the skater is ready for his/her turn.
Music & Announcing
Practice ice music/announcers will play the scheduled music for each practice session. The music should be in the order that it will need to be played. There will also be music and announcing instructions on the table next to you with some sample announcing script and more detailed instructions. You will be sitting rink side. Dress warm.
Hospitality
Hospitality volunteers help create a welcoming, comfortable environment for judges, coaches, and fellow volunteers throughout the event. They assist with setting up and maintaining the hospitality rooms—arranging tables, organizing food and beverages, and ensuring snacks, drinks, and essentials remain stocked all day. Volunteers also monitor coffee and beverage stations, tidy meal setups, and keep all hospitality areas clean and inviting.
Throughout their shift, volunteers circulate between designated hospitality spaces (such as judges’, coaches’, or volunteer rooms) to restock supplies and make sure everything is in order. For some events, a restaurant partner may help manage the judges’ room. In these cases, responsibilities may be limited to simple checks or assisting as needed. Volunteers do not need to stay in the hospitality room continuously but should check in regularly to keep the area running smoothly.
Awards Table
Awards Table volunteers help organize and present medals to skaters following each event. Volunteers also help track medal distribution by marking which skaters have received their awards. This role ensures award presentations run smoothly, accurately, and enjoyably for skaters and spectators.
Team Escort
Team Escorts help synchronized skating teams stay on schedule and move smoothly through each stage of the competition. Each escort is assigned to a specific team or dressing room, guiding the teams to their warm-up area, locker room, and competition line-up while keeping track of key times. Escorts may provide gentle time reminders, such as a 5-minute warning at the dressing room door, to ensure the team is ready when needed.
After the team competes, escorts assist with post-performance transitions, helping skaters collect their gear and directing them to photo areas, bag locations, or other designated spaces. This role ensures teams know where to go at every step, helping the event run efficiently and stress-free.
Transportation
These volunteers help shuttle Officials from the airport to the hotel and back again.
Transportation volunteer should provide the following information:
- Your name
- Cell phone number
- The type and color of vehicle
SUV preferred.
